About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Follow all safety rules and procedures
Repair and test air brake valves for railroad applications according to company specifications
Install and maintain air brake systems on locomotives
Read schematics and perform shop math
Prepare and maintain records and reports
Perform other duties as assigned
Work in a shop repair environment and on locomotives
Assess multiple tasks and develop a timely completion plan

Requirements

What you’ll need

High School diploma (or equivalent)
Experience in a manufacturing environment in a job related field
Experience using hand tools and pneumatic hand tools, cutting torch, welders, and pipe threader
Understanding of air brake schematics, brake valve diagrams, and part lists
Ability to perform physical requirements of a shop repair environment and work on locomotives
Ability to follow orders and communicate effectively with fellow workers and management
Ability to work well with others and learn all aspects of air brake repair and locomotive air brake system installation
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to apply common-sense understanding and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
Availability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as required
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights
Must complete additional job-related screening processes following a conditional offer, as permitted or required by law
