About the role
- The Network Optimization Analyst delivers technical reporting expertise and analytical support for the North American Network Optimization Department.
- This role is responsible for maintaining and distributing existing reports and dashboards, as well as designing and developing new tools to support the Scheduling team and Repair Operations.
- The Analyst actively contributes to network and scheduling optimization initiatives and identifies opportunities to enhance processes at repair shops, with the goal of improving efficiency and service reliability.
- Develop and implement a cross-functional reporting strategy using Power BI and SQL, ensuring data integrity and the relevance of KPIs and performance metrics.
- Collaborate closely with Leasing, Supply Chain, Finance, Scheduling, and the Repair Shop Network to deliver actionable insights.
- Maintain and manage controlled documentation, distributing formal updates or revisions as necessary to ensure consistency and alignment across business units.
- Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards, reports, and automated tools in Power BI to improve visibility, streamline operations, and support data-driven decision-making.
- Utilize SQL to extract, transform, and analyze data related to shop capabilities, capacity, and workload to support efficient planning and execution within Scheduling and Repair Operations.
- Track, measure, and report on program adherence and asset flow, identifying opportunities to optimize maintenance scheduling during periods of low demand.
- Conduct complex data analysis and generate ad hoc reports using SQL and Power BI to support evolving business needs and strategic initiatives across the shop network.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts by leveraging data analytics to identify inefficiencies and implement enhancements within scheduling processes and repair shop operations
- Maintaining a current understanding of North American regulatory requirements (AAR, EPA, FRA, TC, etc.) and the effects they have on shop repair capabilities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems or relevant field required
- Minimum 3-5 years of related experience
- Rail industry or transportation experience highly preferred but willing to consider relevant industry experience in lieu of education.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptionally high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Sophisticated user of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Power BI
- Proficient in SQL for querying database
- Strong knowledge of SmartSheets and SharePoint
- Solid critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Highly organized, ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently under strict deadlines
- Maintain high energy on an ongoing basis, must have high stamina, be results driven, goal oriented and self-guided
- Understanding of rail industry and repair shop operations preferred
