About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support loss control/risk engineering efforts through interaction with internal and external stakeholders
  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business across retail, wholesale, primary, and excess markets
  • Build and maintain relationships with Underwriting, Claims, RSS Team, brokers, and other stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain risk control reports, report forms, and supporting documents
  • Help develop guidelines for when and how to use loss control
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in inland marine and property
  • Complete onsite, virtual, and desktop risk assessment evaluations for moderate- to high-complexity Property, IM, and Ocean Marine accounts
  • Identify and communicate risks, exposures, and controls to support loss prevention and underwriting decisions
  • Influence customers to make improvements and corrective actions
  • Provide solutions and resources for risk identification and reduction
  • Write technically detailed risk assessment reports and recommendations
  • Assist with risk control vendor utilization, quality control, and management
  • Prepare and deliver technical training to team members, underwriters, insureds, and others
  • Stay current on technical subjects, regulations, and emerging issues
  • Support technical content development and special projects
  • Support other product lines and conduct multiline surveys as needed
  • Independently manage workload and document work requests
  • Learn and use current and new assessment and reporting technologies
  • Travel approximately 25%, with additional travel as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Engineering, Risk Management, or Fire Sciences preferred
  • Recognized relevant certifications such as P.E., CSP, ARM, or CFPS preferred, or willingness to pursue
  • Minimum of 6+ years of combined documented Property, IM, and Ocean Marine loss control/risk management experience in retail and/or wholesale markets
  • Understanding of Property, IM, and Ocean Marine insurance coverages, including general property, builders’ risk, contractors’ equipment, motor truck cargo, equipment breakdown, warehouse legal liability, or fine arts
  • Experience with Property, IM, and Ocean Marine exposures in low- to high-hazard residential, commercial, and industrial occupancies and controls
  • Technical proficiency interpreting and applying NFPA, FM Global, IBC, or client standards
  • Ability to evaluate fire protection systems, including automatic sprinklers and special extinguishing systems
  • Strong technical skills
  • Fluency in risk management software platforms and MS Office products
  • Understanding of boiler and machinery operations, exposures, and controls
  • Understanding of fine arts risk management is a plus
  • US work authorization required
