About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Managing a team of claims examiners possessing varied experience levels
  • Overseeing the resolution of construction bodily injury and construction defect claims
  • Providing direction, coaching, and training
  • Conveys organization’s objectives and priorities to staff and measures progress towards stated goals
  • Confirming coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims
  • Directing and monitoring assignments of new loss activity for construction bodily injury and construction defect claims
  • Reviewing and approving correspondence and reports including coverage position letters and Large Loss Reports
  • Reviewing and approving reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling specialist
  • Making recommendations concerning reserve changes to Senior Director or Senior Management
  • Participating in review and discussion of large loss activity in the general liability book with interested stakeholders
  • Ensuring that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectives
  • Assessing and evaluating individual specialist and team performance, providing feedback and developing training needs
  • Preparing and distributing reports by collecting and summarizing information
  • Assisting in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assess resource needs
  • Fostering and encouraging strong relationships with internal stakeholders and customers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license
  • Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or I-Lead or other Management Training
  • Minimum of 10 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Successful completion of 5 years as a Senior Claims Specialist or Executive Claims Specialist is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong desire for continuous improvement
