About the role
- Serve as a trusted adviser to executives, in-house attorneys, and business partners on corporate, transactional, litigation, and regulatory matters
- Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a broad spectrum of contracts and agreements (purchase, services, nondisclosure, referral, independent-contractor, real estate, organizational documents)
- Provide legal support for business initiatives and cross-functional projects to ensure alignment with company objectives
- Monitor statutes, regulations, and case law; distill developments into actionable guidance and assist in designing policies, procedures, and training
- Lead special projects and assume additional responsibilities as the Legal Department evolves
- Support the team on various tasks and demonstrate a willingness to take on diverse work
- Build deep relationships across Mariner to anticipate legal needs and provide proactive solutions
- Support corporate governance, board materials, and entity management
- Contribute to M&A due diligence and deal deliverables
- Improve legal processes, templates, and knowledge management
- Leverage AI-enabled tools for contract review, regulatory monitoring, and legal research to accelerate delivery
Requirements
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department
- Demonstrable depth in general corporate and contract matters
- Comfort navigating multiple legal areas (transactional, litigation, regulatory)
- Proven ability to manage multiple high-stakes matters simultaneously and meet tight timelines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts to non-legal audiences
- Impeccable organizational skills and exacting attention to detail
- Self-starter mentality with proactive issue identification and resolution
- Strong ethical compass, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality
- Prior exposure to the financial services sector (including SEC/FINRA regulation) highly desirable
- Business-first problem solving and growth mentality
