About the role

  • Serve as a trusted adviser to executives, in-house attorneys, and business partners on corporate, transactional, litigation, and regulatory matters
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a broad spectrum of contracts and agreements (purchase, services, nondisclosure, referral, independent-contractor, real estate, organizational documents)
  • Provide legal support for business initiatives and cross-functional projects to ensure alignment with company objectives
  • Monitor statutes, regulations, and case law; distill developments into actionable guidance and assist in designing policies, procedures, and training
  • Lead special projects and assume additional responsibilities as the Legal Department evolves
  • Support the team on various tasks and demonstrate a willingness to take on diverse work
  • Build deep relationships across Mariner to anticipate legal needs and provide proactive solutions
  • Support corporate governance, board materials, and entity management
  • Contribute to M&A due diligence and deal deliverables
  • Improve legal processes, templates, and knowledge management
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools for contract review, regulatory monitoring, and legal research to accelerate delivery

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • Demonstrable depth in general corporate and contract matters
  • Comfort navigating multiple legal areas (transactional, litigation, regulatory)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-stakes matters simultaneously and meet tight timelines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts to non-legal audiences
  • Impeccable organizational skills and exacting attention to detail
  • Self-starter mentality with proactive issue identification and resolution
  • Strong ethical compass, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality
  • Prior exposure to the financial services sector (including SEC/FINRA regulation) highly desirable
  • Business-first problem solving and growth mentality
  • Relationship-building and influencing skills across functions
