Serve as a trusted adviser to executives, in-house attorneys, and business partners on corporate, transactional, litigation, and regulatory matters
Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a broad spectrum of contracts and agreements (purchase, services, nondisclosure, referral, independent-contractor, real estate, organizational documents)
Provide legal support for business initiatives and cross-functional projects to ensure alignment with company objectives
Monitor statutes, regulations, and case law; distill developments into actionable guidance and assist in designing policies, procedures, and training
Lead special projects and assume additional responsibilities as the Legal Department evolves
Support the team on various tasks and demonstrate a willingness to take on diverse work
Build deep relationships across Mariner to anticipate legal needs and provide proactive solutions
Support corporate governance, board materials, and entity management
Contribute to M&A due diligence and deal deliverables
Improve legal processes, templates, and knowledge management
Leverage AI-enabled tools for contract review, regulatory monitoring, and legal research to accelerate delivery
Requirements
Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
3+ years of progressively responsible experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department
Demonstrable depth in general corporate and contract matters
Comfort navigating multiple legal areas (transactional, litigation, regulatory)
Proven ability to manage multiple high-stakes matters simultaneously and meet tight timelines
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts to non-legal audiences
Impeccable organizational skills and exacting attention to detail
Self-starter mentality with proactive issue identification and resolution
Strong ethical compass, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality
Prior exposure to the financial services sector (including SEC/FINRA regulation) highly desirable
