About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage staff and plan, direct, and manage the technical, budgetary, and administrative activities of the Planning Branch
  • Ensure the Branch achieves success in its planning studies
  • Interact with many external customers, including cities/towns and other agencies
  • Speak to the public, and manage and work with many consultants
  • Review the work of assigned staff to ensure work quality and timely accomplishment of tasks
  • Coordinate project budget and contract preparation and administration
  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance in planning strategies and procedures
  • Compile and analyze data and prepare status reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Four years of planning/project management experience, of which one year must have been supervisory
  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a closely related field
  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona Driver's license by the time of hire
  • AICP certification
  • Master’s degree in Planning or a related field
  • Public sector experience
  • Experience in the principles and practices of planning for community planning, hydrology, land use, economics, and project management
  • Experience in dealing with the public and in public presentations
