About the role

  • Contribute to product direction for scalable distributed architecture, core MariaDB-based OLTP server, and synchronous high-availability offerings powered by Galera Cluster
  • Contribute to and communicate a compelling product strategy for distributed database, OLTP systems, and high-availability solutions
  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog; make data-driven trade-off decisions to balance new feature development, architectural improvements, and technical debt
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to translate product vision into detailed technical requirements, user stories, and product specifications for distributed architectures, OLTP systems, and HA mechanisms
  • Partner with Product Marketing to support positioning, messaging, go-to-market strategies, create technical content, product demos, and sales enablement materials
  • Serve as a technical product expert and collaborate with developer relations to support the open-source community and gather feedback
  • Ensure alignment across engineering, marketing, sales, and support; communicate progress and dependencies to stakeholders

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of product management experience, with a focus on deeply technical products such as database internals, distributed systems, and data infrastructure
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong technical background
  • Strong understanding of distributed database architectures (e.g., CAP theorem, sharding, consensus protocols, replication) and OLTP systems
  • Proven track record of launching successful enterprise software or SaaS products from concept to market adoption
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both engineering teams and business stakeholders
  • Direct experience with the MariaDB or MySQL database ecosystems (preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with high-availability and clustering technologies, particularly Galera Cluster (preferred)
  • Experience engaging with an open-source software community (preferred)
  • Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their data services (preferred)
  • Advanced degree (MS in Computer Science), MBA or related field (preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of OLTP workload optimization, including indexing strategies, query planning, and performance tuning (preferred)
  • Expertise in distributed database systems, such as handling data partitioning, replication models, and fault-tolerant consensus algorithms (preferred)
  • Proficiency in database security practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards for high-availability environments (preferred)
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning in distributed OLTP databases (preferred)
  • MariaDB does not sponsor work visas or relocation (must have work authorization)
