About the role
- Contribute to and communicate product strategy for distributed database, OLTP systems, and high-availability solutions grounded in market research and customer engagement.
- Manage and prioritize product backlog for assigned areas; make data-driven trade-offs balancing new features, architectural work, and technical debt.
- Collaborate with engineering to translate product vision into detailed technical requirements, user stories, and product specifications for distributed architectures, OLTP systems, and HA mechanisms.
- Partner with Product Marketing to develop positioning, messaging, go-to-market strategies, technical content, demos, and sales enablement materials.
- Serve as a technical product expert and collaborate with developer relations to support the open-source community and gather feedback to inform the roadmap.
- Ensure cross-functional alignment across engineering, marketing, sales, and support; communicate progress and dependencies to stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of product management experience, with a focus on deeply technical products such as database internals, distributed systems, and data infrastructure.
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding of distributed database architectures (e.g., CAP theorem, sharding, consensus protocols, replication) and OLTP systems.
- Proven track record of launching successful enterprise software or SaaS products from concept to market adoption.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
- Preferred: Direct experience with the MariaDB or MySQL database ecosystems.
- Preferred: Hands-on experience with high-availability and clustering technologies, particularly Galera Cluster.
- Preferred: Experience engaging with an open-source software community.
- Preferred: Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their data services.
- Preferred: An advanced degree (MS in Computer Science), MBA or related field.
- Preferred: In-depth knowledge of OLTP workload optimization, including indexing strategies, query planning, and performance tuning.
- Preferred: Expertise in distributed database systems, such as handling data partitioning, replication models, and fault-tolerant consensus algorithms.
- Preferred: Proficiency in database security practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards for high-availability environments.
- Preferred: Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning in distributed OLTP databases.
- Work authorization: MariaDB does not sponsor work visas or relocation.
