About the role

  • Performs clerical duties and coordinates communication of the unit to assist with patient and family-centered care activities.
  • Initiates, assembles, and maintains patient charts under established procedures; prepares patient labels/armbands for admissions.
  • Processes patient admissions, transfers, and discharges and informs team members of reports and pertinent information.
  • Greets patients and visitors; directs them to departments and communicates wait times.
  • Answers telephones and manages the patient call system; serves as an information resource to patients, staff, and visitors across all age groups.
  • Completes and maintains unit and patient records, files, forms and documents related to admissions, surgeries, transfers, discharges, and medical records.
  • Maintains organized work area; checks and updates facility boards, pneumatic tube system and telemetry box reconciliation.
  • Prepares reports, purchase orders, memos, letters and sends documents via facsimile while maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Tracks call light response time, assigns and distributes communication devices, runs errands, retrieves supplies, and transports patients.
  • Maintains inventory par levels, coordinates transportation for patients and items, and fulfills patient sitter role when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and works under direction of nurse or physician.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Windows-based software packages.
  • Basic computer experience required.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and interact in a positive manner with patients, families, staff, physicians and the community.
  • Organized, accurate, detail oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet demands.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette skills.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and is proactive with implementing initiatives.
  • High School Diploma / GED Equivalent.
  • 1 year of equivalent hospital experience required.
  • Experience with Epic is preferred.
