About the role

  • Manage a personal caseload of residential property transactions from initial instruction through to completion and post‑completion tasks, ensuring timely progression and clear client communication.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to clients on conveyancing matters, identifying and managing legal risks and ensuring clients understand the process and implications of their transaction.
  • Carry out and oversee client identity checks and anti‑money laundering (AML) procedures, maintaining robust, audit‑ready records and ensuring compliance with firm and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare, review and negotiate contracts, transfers, leasehold documentation, Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) returns and other standard conveyancing paperwork in line with firm precedents and best practice.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders, surveyors, HM Land Registry, local authorities and other third parties to obtain necessary documentation, chase outstanding items and manage expectations.
  • Prepare and check completion statements, manage client account transactions and disbursements, and support billing and fee recovery processes in accordance with firm policies.
  • Maintain and update electronic case files, recording clear case notes, milestones and actions to support file reviews and ensure matter continuity.
  • Resolve routine and complex client and third‑party enquiries by telephone and email, escalating matters where appropriate and keeping clients informed of progress throughout.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, update precedents and support the implementation of conveyancing technology and workflow enhancements.
  • Provide supervision, training and support to junior colleagues and paralegals, sharing knowledge of procedures and promoting high standards of client care.

Requirements

  • Solicitor qualified (or equivalent) with demonstrable experience handling residential conveyancing matters within a law firm or conveyancing practice.
  • Strong knowledge of residential property processes including HM Land Registry procedures, SDLT requirements and leasehold issues.
  • Familiarity with AML and client identification requirements and experience maintaining accurate, audit‑ready case files.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail across a varied caseload.
  • Confident and professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with clients, colleagues and external contacts.
  • Commercially aware, proactive and solutions‑focused with a commitment to continuous professional development and adoption of new systems and processes.
