About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, enhance, integrate, test, and maintain software for an assigned USCIS ICAM workstream
  • Develop application components using Java, Spring, Hibernate, Angular, and MySQL
  • Commit code daily to the approved USCIS enterprise repository
  • Participate in source-control branching, peer review, merging, and release-management practices
  • Develop and maintain unit tests and automated test coverage
  • Work with test engineers to resolve defects and validate release readiness
  • Support CI/CD pipeline execution and zero-downtime deployments
  • Develop code meeting security, quality, performance, and Section 508 expectations
  • Support integrations between ICAM applications and internal or external systems
  • Troubleshoot application, integration, configuration, data, and performance issues
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 incident support for assigned applications
  • Participate in root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and after-action activities
  • Write or maintain user stories, technical documentation, system-design materials, and operational procedures
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, sprint planning, demonstrations, and retrospectives
  • Develop, integrate, test, deploy, and support software within an assigned USCIS ICAM workstream
  • Maintain unit and automated testing coverage and participate in secure CI/CD deployments
  • Support production troubleshooting after code is deployed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Hands-on software development experience using Java
  • Experience with Spring or Spring Boot
  • Experience with Hibernate or comparable Java persistence frameworks
  • Experience with Angular or comparable modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL
  • Experience with Git-based source control and regular code commits
  • Experience developing and maintaining unit or automated tests
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Experience participating in CI/CD software delivery
  • Ability to troubleshoot application and integration issues in non-production and production environments
  • Ability to provide Tier 2 or Tier 3 technical support
  • Ability to obtain and maintain favorable USCIS EOD, suitability, and required system access
  • Prior DHS, USCIS, or federal civilian software engineering experience (preferred)
  • Experience developing ICAM, IAM, SSO, OAuth/OIDC, PKI, PAM, account-management, or access-control applications (preferred)
  • Experience with GitHub Enterprise, Jenkins, SonarQube, Selenium, Nexus, Jira, and Confluence (preferred)
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, Docker, EKS, or hybrid-cloud environments (preferred)
  • Experience with zero-downtime deployments, stateless microservices, and production DevOps support (preferred)
  • Experience developing Section 508-compliant applications (preferred)
  • Experience with secure coding and remediation of static or dynamic security findings (preferred)
