About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead technical discovery with Sales and customers to define application requirements, operating conditions, and system scope for engineered lifting solutions.
  • Provide preliminary system sizing, application feasibility assessments, and configuration recommendations.
  • Translate customer and sales requirements into structured engineering scopes for outsourced engineering partners.
  • Own the technical definition of HLS projects from customer opportunity through engineering release, ensuring solutions are safe, manufacturable, commercially viable, and aligned with customer requirements.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with external engineering and fabrication partners for system configuration, structural calculations, and detailed engineering design.
  • Review and approve below-the-hook engineering drawings, calculations, and submittals.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME BTH-1, CMAA, OSHA, and Magswitch internal safety standards, global standards, and SB30.20 (Below the hook lifting devices).
  • Verify magnet selection, load paths, attachment design, safety factors, and review FEA when provided.
  • Deliver complete engineering packages, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, lift plans, and technical documentation to enable successful project execution.
  • Support service technicians and installation partners during commissioning or technical escalations (primarily remote).
  • Standardize engineering practices, reusable designs, and technical documentation to improve scalability, reduce engineering effort, and support the long-term growth of the HLS business.
  • Identify recurring application or installation issues and drive updates to engineering standards and design practices.
  • Drive efforts to standardize lifting system, sub-assembly, and component designs to reduce one-off customization where practical.
  • Develop Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs, spare part inventory, and customer best-practice guidelines.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related technical field (required).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in engineered-to-order equipment, lifting devices, cranes, rigging, automation, or heavy industrial machinery.
  • Ability to review CAD drawings, interpret FEA, and manage engineering documentation.
  • Occasional international travel as required.
  • Willingness to obtain PE licensure where appropriate and to establish and manage a network of licensed Professional Engineers authorized to review and stamp documents in accordance with applicable state requirements.
  • Experience with below-the-hook devices or crane systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of magnets or lifting systems.
