About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide coverage in short-term, surge, and on-demand situations for Military and Family Life Counselor assignments
- Provide Adult or Child and Youth Behavioral counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations
- Deliver non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling, including assessment, brief counseling, consultation, action planning, referrals, and follow-up
- Provide training and health and wellness presentations and participate in health fairs and other installation activities
- Consult with parents, childcare personnel, school staff, youth programs, summer camps, and installation command regarding behavioral health issues
- Enter counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity
- Work with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure services meet installation needs
- Establish relationships with community resources and provide appropriate linkages
- Manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to DoD protocol
- Communicate with Regional Supervisors and participate in individual/group supervision
- Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field or social work
- Current independent licensure meeting state, Commonwealth, or customer-specific requirements
- Must be an independently licensed behavioral health clinician
- LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or LCHMC licensure as applicable
- Valid in-state driver's license
- Ability to prove US citizenship
- Fluent in English
- Willingness to accept assignments of undefined periods on short notice, including weekends
- Ability to cover full-time assignments ranging from a weekend to two weeks
- Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution-focused counseling methods
- For CYB positions, experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology meeting Magellan MFLC CYB criteria
- Ability to work effectively with minimal instruction and guidance
- Ability to quickly build rapport and communicate with military members, spouses, children, students, parents, and coworkers
- Ability to adapt to new working conditions and varying location rules
- Ability to participate in trainings, Quality Improvement committees, supervision, and other contract activities with minimal notice
- Ability to respond to emergent situations and work across indoor, outdoor, rugged, uneven, and weather-exposed military installation environments
- Ability to comply with site-specific requirements, including current immunizations or vaccinations when required
- Prior military service, military family membership, or strong familiarity with military culture desired
