About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist the Childcare Food Specialist in preparing meals meeting menu guidelines, nutritional and cultural needs, and age-appropriate portions
  • Prepare food for special center events and promote family-style dining in classrooms
  • Lead food preparation when the Childcare Food Specialist is absent
  • Deliver meals and service items to classrooms on schedule
  • Return leftovers and dishes to the kitchen and clean and store food according to regulations
  • Maintain inventory and the condition of supplies and equipment, reporting faults
  • Maintain safe, clean, and culturally appropriate food service areas in compliance with licensing, accreditation, USDA, Wisconsin Early Learning Standards, and Madison College policies
  • Maintain accurate records of menus, production, inventory, and sanitation
  • Inspect food deliveries for accuracy, safety, and quality, reporting issues
  • Contribute to program newsletters and support training for student-staff nutrition aides
  • Perform light housekeeping, including laundry and sanitizing classroom toys and materials
  • Perform other related duties supporting efficient division operations and institutional objectives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent working experience
  • 0–2 years of relevant work experience
  • Meet Wisconsin Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers (HFS 46), including physical exam, TB skin test, and criminal background check upon hire and on an ongoing basis
  • Achieve first aid and CPR certification within 3 months and maintain current certification
  • Ability to follow recipes, worksheets, and verbal instructions
  • Ability to scale recipes and portion servings for infants through preschoolers
  • Knowledge of quantity food preparation, equipment, and sanitation methods is desirable
  • Ability to engage positively with all populations and communities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and throughout employment
  • No H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship available
  • Resume required; failure to include it results in disqualification
