About the role

  • Provides targeted technical support to external customers, as well as internal customers such as Business, Sales, Marketing, and Manufacturing.
  • Understands customer and market needs, translates these into resin requirements/specifications, and works with cross functional groups to frame these into value added opportunities.
  • Investigates and resolves customer complaints regarding product performance or quality with a long-term focus on manufacturing excellence.
  • Initiates and manages value added product and applications development projects in collaboration with other functions including Business, Product Development and Manufacturing.
  • Supports profitable product line growth through customer qualifications of new, improved or existing products for existing applications as well as new applications.
  • Proficient in compound development and design, understands compound formulation-property relationships.
  • Defines formulations of new compounded resins and predicts resin performance in targeted conversion processes, markets and end use applications.
  • In particular, develops flame retardant cross-linkable compounds for automotive Wire and Cable applications that meet industry standards.
  • Recognized as a technical expert in Wire and Cable conversion processes such as continuous vulcanization and electron beam radiation.
  • Provides support to manufacturing plants including process improvement initiatives and other activities aimed at operational excellence and continuous improvement in line with business needs.
  • Participates in and / or leads various activities related to LyondellBasell’s product stewardship protocol.
  • Provides technical advice and training to internal and external customers, end users, specifiers and design engineers.
  • Assists in the creation and management of product datasheets, technical bulletins, and other technical product literature and marketing brochures.
  • Prepares and delivers technical presentations at meetings or conferences, and actively participates in technical organizations and professional associations related to the targeted markets and technologies.
  • Known as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for their specific area of responsibility.
  • Participates in circular design activities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • The candidate will typically have 8 to 20 years (or more) of work experience in the Wire and Cable industry and/or strong expertise in formulating flame retardant compounds.
  • The candidate must be able to establish excellent customer relationships, be an effective communicator (both written and oral) and have an advanced level of technical competency.
  • Must also be customer focused, results oriented, problem solver, collaborative, have advanced project management and leadership skills.
  • The position requires typically 10 – 30% travel within the US, Mexico and Canada.
  • Position requires a University / College degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymers Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with a polymer focus.
  • Previous Experience in Wire and Cable applications, in particular in the Automotive and Appliance markets.
  • Previous experience in a customer facing role.
  • Knowledge of compound formulation development as well as production technologies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of wire and cable processing equipment and technical requirements.
