Lumos is looking for a full-time OSP Project Engineer to design fiber network construction.
You’ll plan & prepare drawings for construction of new, overhead, or underground links, cables, & conduits to obtain optimum and economical utilization of communications facilities.
The OSP Project Engineer is responsible for selecting the most cost beneficial route for all lines and equipment for projects – making sure that our network expands throughout the regions we’re privileged to serve.

Essential Functions include: prepares detailed construction & installation drawings; provides estimates of labor and materials costs; maps and drafts utilizing CAD; manages & tracks OSP work schedules; liaises with city officials; liaises with customers regarding land acquisitions for easements; provides real-time direction; communicates and escalates contractual, technical, or scheduling requirements; reviews permits, rights of way, easements, and negotiations; tracks and follows up on issues; integrates innovations into design & engineering practices; collaborates with Sales; oversees and guides design-permitting vendors; performs other duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: excellent interpersonal skills; project management; OSHA/NESC knowledge; MS Office; multitasking; familiarity with OSP construction, site permitting, testing/acceptance, local L2/Transport design, Google Earth.
Other Experience & Requirements: 5+ years’ OSP engineering/construction/operations; high school diploma; associate degree preferred; proactive and collaborative; fiber/telecom industry experience essential.
Physical Requirements: frequent computer use; long periods seated; good vision/hearing/reasoning.
Requirements
Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Strong knowledge of OSHA rules, site safety, National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements, and associated construction and telecommunications federal and local regulations.
Proficient in MS Office; able to create reports, presentations, and project documentation.
Able to respond promptly, manage multiple tasks & customer needs, and prioritize progress toward deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Working knowledge of all aspects of company processes including but limited to:
OSP construction;
Site preparation and permitting;
OSP testing and acceptance standards;
Creating design for local L2 and Transport architecture;
Google Earth and various fiber mapping platforms.
5+ years’ technical experience working in OSP Engineering, Construction, or Operations.
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
Proactive, independent, and collaborative - takes initiative to keep on-task and on-target.
Fiber and telecommunications industry experience is essential, with a strong understanding of industry standards, technologies, & processes critical for success in the role.
