About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a strategic director of labor relations to HR and people leaders
- Facilitate the organization’s labor relations strategy and recommend best-practice approaches to labor and associate relations
- Advise on workplace environment improvement using employment and labor laws, government regulations, and agency rules
- Implement processes to identify and resolve issues before they become critical and avoid or mitigate labor activity
- Develop and implement ongoing training for HR and people leaders
- Collaborate with Field Operations, HR, Legal, and divisional leadership on pro-associate initiatives
- Drive pro-associate communications with store operations, supply network, and other departments
- Make recommendations to avoid or mitigate workplace disputes and assess labor implications of business decisions
- Collect, analyze, interpret, and report on internal and external labor union activity
- Recommend actions based on labor and associate relations trends to improve associate engagement
- Review, design, and deliver labor and associate relations training and education across the U.S. enterprise
- Develop and implement individualized labor relations interventions with HR and people leaders, including occasional facility travel
- Advocate for fair and appropriate pro-associate workplace practices within legal parameters
- Develop, use, and promote technology tools and continuous-improvement resources for HR and people leaders
- Formulate action plans with legal and other partners in response to union activity
- Build relationships with Associate Relations team members
- Guide Associate Relations consultants and peer Associate Relations Managers
- Handle complex labor union activity situations, stretch assignments, and enterprise-wide projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Labor Relations, or related field, or equivalent years of experience without a degree
- 8 years of experience as an exempt Labor Relations Specialist or equivalent position in a unionized or non-unionized organization
- Advanced knowledge of labor and employee relations principles, including federal and state laws and policies
- Seasoned understanding of HR management programs and their interrelationships
- Ability to appropriately understand and apply policies, procedures, and practices to day-to-day issues
- Preferred: Master’s degree, MBA, Human Resources, Employee Relations, Labor Relations, or Industrial Relations degree
- Preferred: JD with a concentration or experience in employment/labor law
