About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify, evaluate and sanction credit risk across the strategically important Mid Markets portfolio
  • Apply credit risk appetite through the cycle, including analysis, rating, structuring, sanctioning and monitoring of Mid Markets relationships with revenues of £50m–£500m
  • Build trusted partnerships across the Mid Markets team and translate business strategy into well-structured growth
  • Provide early, solutions-oriented advice on business opportunities
  • Own the effectiveness of the end-to-end credit process and drive continuous improvement, pace and decision quality
  • Champion the growth, development and retention of diverse Mid Markets credit talent
  • Exercise delegated credit authority with accountability for decision quality
  • Take ownership of portfolio growth and credit performance
  • Present clear risk insight to the wider team and provide credit expertise on portfolio, sector and product reviews
  • Coach colleagues and raise performance through clarity and constructive challenge
  • Support strong first-line credit stewardship
  • Role model LBG values and behaviours and deputise for the Head of Credit when required
  • Help lead the change agenda, including developing business with trading companies and expanding cash flow-based lending capability
  • Drive simplification, efficiency, empowerment, automation and smarter use of data

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong background in credit risk, financial analysis and cash flow-based lending, ideally gained over a minimum of 10 years
  • Experience holding and exercising a material credit authority delegation
  • Sophisticated financial and non-financial analysis capability
  • Strong transaction structuring capability
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to challenge constructively and explain decisions clearly
  • Ability to balance competing priorities, maintain pace and deliver high-quality outcomes under time pressure
  • Curious and adaptable mindset
  • Resilience to learn quickly and respond effectively to new challenges
  • Sound judgement and strong decision-making
