About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the independent assessment, approval and ongoing management of credit risk across a portfolio of Financial Sponsor clients
  • Cover subscription finance, NAV lending, derivatives, liquidity and related products
  • Shape sector strategy, risk appetite, policy and portfolio management practices
  • Provide robust challenge to business stakeholders while supporting sustainable growth
  • Exercise delegated credit authority and deputise for the Sector Head when required
  • Provide independent assessment and approval of lending, trading limits and internal ratings
  • Provide thought leadership and support senior governance forums
  • Act as a recognised subject matter expert within Financial Sponsors
  • Lead management of Financial Sponsor relationships using forward-looking risk analysis
  • Drive development of sector strategy, mandates, policies and portfolio management practices
  • Build relationships with senior stakeholders across Coverage, Product, Risk and Credit functions
  • Lead continuous improvement across data quality, controls, management information and credit processes
  • Keep senior management apprised of horizon risks and portfolio issues, suggesting mitigations
  • Coach and upskill other department members

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience in Fund Finance and/or Financial Sponsors credit risk management within 1LOD and/or 2LOD environments
  • Extensive experience in credit underwriting, transaction structuring, delegated credit approval and portfolio management
  • Deep understanding of Financial Sponsors, Fund Finance structures, lending products, counterparty credit risk and associated legal frameworks
  • Strong understanding of lending products, derivative products and associated legal documentation
  • Expert credit underwriting and approval skills
  • Expert numerical analysis skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders while balancing commercial objectives and risk discipline
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to drive decision-making, build consensus and deliver strategic outcomes
  • Ability to learn new products, sectors and external-environment changes quickly
  • Ability to coach and upskill colleagues
  • Exceptional organisation skills and ability to prioritise multiple workloads and meet deadlines
  • Ability to coordinate multiple work streams and deliver against tight timelines
  • Ability to build and maintain trusted stakeholder relationships using influencing and negotiating skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA, ACA, ACCA or FRM are desirable
  • Strong understanding of banking products, credit approval processes and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Demonstrable expertise in Financial Sponsors, Fund Finance and associated market developments
  • Previous experience in a senior Credit, Underwriting, Portfolio Management or Coverage role
