About the role
- Perform engineering design tasks for bridge projects from preliminary to final design
- Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
- Provide engineering design services for traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build bridge projects
- Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans
- Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
- Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance
- Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action
- Actively participate and serve in leadership positions in transportation related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, NCSEA, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering with a Structural emphasis is required
- M.S. degree in a relevant discipline is preferred
- P.E. license required
- 10+ years of bridge/culvert design experience, required
- DOT bridge design experience and thorough understanding of DOT guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation (ODOT, NCDOT or MaineDOT preferred)
- Relationships with DOT, municipalities, preferred
- Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and Manual for Bridge Evaluation
