About the role

  • Perform engineering design tasks for bridge projects from preliminary to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Have established working relationships and contact with client technical staff and project managers, especially in DOT and local governments
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build bridge projects
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action
  • Participate in projects by completing tasks within schedule and budget with teams comprised of different disciplines
  • Actively participate and serve in leadership positions in transportation related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, NCSEA, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in civil engineering with a Structural emphasis is required
  • M.S. degree in a relevant discipline is preferred
  • P.E. license required
  • 10+ years of bridge/culvert design experience
  • DOT bridge design experience and thorough understanding of DOT guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation (ODOT, NCDOT or MaineDOT preferred)
  • Relationships with DOT, municipalities, preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
