About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Finance setup (DE + US): establish Chart of Accounts, reporting stack and closing processes for both entities.
- US setup via Mercury, QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Carta and Fathom/Mosaic.
- DE setup via DATEV, in coordination with our tax advisor.
- Investor reporting: monthly investor update and quarterly board package (P&L, Cash Flow, KPI scorecard, variance analysis) — at the level institutional investors expect.
- Grants and subsidies: manage ongoing and new funding with German bodies (BMWK, BAFA, EU programs) and US agencies (e.g., Department of Commerce, NIH mechanisms).
- Funding drawdowns, proof-of-use documentation, audit trail.
- AI and automation strategy: implement variance analysis, reporting drafts and anomaly detection using Claude/GPT workflows.
- Goal: 60–70% less manual effort with higher accuracy.
- Operational accounting: bookkeeping in DATEV, EBICS banking, mail handling, document management, payment runs, invoicing in the CRM.
- Transfer pricing & compliance: arm's-length documentation for the GmbH–US license agreement (IRS Section 482 / OECD), preparing for due-diligence depth.
- Cash & forecast: rolling 6-month planning, runway monitoring, three scenarios (Base / Up / Down).
- Scaling readiness: build and curate a data room — structured, auditable and always presentation-ready for investors, partners and authorities.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Foundation: audit, tax or transaction background at a Big Four firm (EY, PwC, KPMG, Deloitte) at Senior/Manager level — or equivalent.
- 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Dual standard: solid knowledge of HGB, basic understanding of US GAAP — or willingness to build this quickly.
- Understanding of intercompany relationships between a GmbH and a US Corp.
- Tools: proficiency with DATEV.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, Mercury, Ramp or comparable US stacks is a plus, not mandatory.
- Languages: fluent in German and English.
- AI mindset: you actively use AI, not avoid it. You understand where automation creates value and where humans retain responsibility.
- Operational and strategic: you enjoy building structures, but are not above tasks like opening the mailbox.
- Discretion: confidential data — cap table, salaries, investor communication — are secure with you.
Benefits
Comp & perks- Substance over status: a senior role with a build mandate — German bookkeeping meets US scaling setup.
- Real part-time: 25 hours means 25 hours.
- Hybrid in Berlin: 1–2 days in the office (Berlin), rest remote.
- Flexible core hours.
- Compensation: EUR 45,000–65,000 gross p.a. for 25h/week (equivalent full-time approx. €72,000–104,000), depending on experience.
- Open to discussion for the right candidate.
- Impact: direct reporting to the CEO, close cooperation with the CTO.
- Mission: healthcare AI that prevents falls and preserves mobility. Measurable outcomes, no marketing slogans.
