Provide mentorship and guidance to underwriters across Canada on both a portfolio and referral basis. Develop the underwriting team’s product line and technical knowledge across general liability, excess casualty and umbrella.
Support the implementation and maintenance of underwriting guidelines, appetite clarity, rating/pricing standards, pricing model validation and training materials.
Monitor frameworks for underwriting decisions (e.g., desirability / appetite, referrals, technical assessments) and recommend improvements, as needed.
Regularly evaluate Portfolio performance, working with underwriting, actuarial and claims leaders to identify drivers of performance, risks, and opportunities.
Synthesize and translate findings from Portfolio evaluations to regularly cascade product-related trends across the Underwriting team.
Support the Casualty Executive Underwriting Officer with Canadian product maintenance and manuscript creation.
Drive a culture of underwriting excellence and data-driven decision making across underwriting teams.
Leverage innovative analytic tools including generative AI to improve the selection of risk, ease of doing business, and to drive efficiency.
Keep abreast of industry and product trends, regulatory changes, and the competitive landscape to shape the Portfolio strategy.
Collaborate with other Global Risk Solutions (GRS) stakeholders to share best practices and leverage knowledge / expertise for the advancement of the business.
Perform special projects and other duties to assist in ensuring the success of the Underwriting Division.
Requirements
A university degree.
CIP or FCIP designation preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of commercial casualty experience in progressive underwriting roles at a leading commercial (re)insurer.
Strong technical knowledge of commercial casualty business, including general liability, excess casualty and umbrella
Experience with medium and large account clients with cross-border exposures.
Experience managing portfolios of risk that have performed well over the long-term.
Strong relationships with brokers and clients.
Understanding of actuarial, claims, and risk management considerations.
Strong communication skills and an ability to present to a wide range of audiences.
Experience operating in a large organization with a matrix reporting structure.
Experience leveraging expertise and capabilities across an organization.
