About the role

  • Provide engineering design support focused on manufacturing tooling in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Design and develop tooling such as weld fixtures, machining fixtures, assembly aids, hydraulic test fixtures, lift/handling devices (as applicable), gauges, and error-proofing solutions to support production needs
  • Create and maintain tooling CAD models and drawings, including tolerances, GDandT as required, materials, finishes, and specifications
  • Support fabrication and build of tooling through vendor coordination and/or internal shop support, including weldment and machined tooling components
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and tooling issues; perform root cause analysis and implement tooling improvements to reduce variation, rework, and cycle time
  • Evaluate tooling concepts and recommend design approaches that meet production, quality, ergonomics, and safety requirements
  • Compile and evaluate tooling design and test data; document results and incorporate lessons learned into new designs
  • Develop or support tooling validation plans, including fit checks, first-article evaluations, tryouts, and acceptance testing
  • Prepare and maintain tooling-related manufacturing documentation as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or technology field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience (tooling, manufacturing engineering, mechanical design, or related) preferred
  • Proficiency with PTC Creo (e.g., parametric modeling, assemblies, detailing/drawings); experience managing models/drawings in a controlled environment preferred
  • Familiarity with welding processes (MIG, TIG, etc.), heavy machining, precision hydraulic assembly, and mechanical/electromechanical assembly and test
  • Experience designing tooling for manufacturing repeatability and production readiness preferred
  • Only general guidance is needed on routine work; instructions on new assignments as needed
