About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Execute substation physical and protection-and-control projects
  • Perform quality control checks on substation physical and P&C design projects
  • Read and design one-line, three-line, schematic, wiring, plan-section, conduit, and grounding drawings
  • Create and check bills of materials for substation physical and P&C designs
  • Support the complete project lifecycle from scoping through final design and implementation
  • Apply National Electrical Safety Code requirements to design processes
  • Implement client standards in project designs
  • Work with designers/drafters to create required project drawings
  • Occasionally attend site visits at customer locations
  • Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, budget, quality control, and safe work practices
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and CAD technicians on the design team
  • Interact with internal teams and clients to meet project needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related degree
  • Eight (8+) or more years of related substation design experience
  • Experience executing substation physical and protection-and-control projects
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to collaborate and lead effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Compliance with quality control and safe work practices
  • Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification is an additional qualification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is an additional qualification
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design is an additional qualification
  • Experience with bus calculations, grounding studies, lightning protection, lighting studies, AC/DC calculations, WinIGS or CDEGS, CAD tools, field testing, or commissioning is an additional qualification
  • Master’s degree in a related field is an additional qualification
