About the role
- Perform design reviews of civil/structural design components for substation projects (steel and concrete structures, foundations, retaining walls, oil spill containment, masonry control shelters, fire-walls)
- Support development of bid/construction packages for substation projects
- Function as a senior engineer leading projects and performing design reviews
- Develop and mentor junior staff members
- Conduct site-visits to client substation facilities and attend client meetings and industry events
- Ensure compliance with quality control, safe work practices, project scope, schedule, and budget
- Serve as senior member of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians
Requirements
- Licensed Senior Civil/Structural Engineer
- 5+ years of experience within the utility industry working directly for a utility or consulting company, doing design engineering and reviews
- Strong educational background in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations
- Experience reviewing substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, and fire-walls
- PE License Required
- SE licensure preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint & MATHCAD software required
- Experience with RISA 3-D, FAD, SAG10, and LPILE software required
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation required
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills
- Team player with ability to communicate with clients and staff
- Site-visits to client substation facilities and occasional travel required
- Prior leadership of projects preferred
