About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide assessment and spiritual care through appropriate intervention and referral of patients, families and staff
  • Serve as liaison between hospital staff, patients and families during challenging or traumatic situations
  • Maintain a pastoral presence and ministry of accompaniment
  • Assess spiritual needs and provide appropriate interventions considering developmental needs and demographics
  • Promote faith development, mindfulness and reflective living
  • Provide crisis support during traumas, alerts and difficult decision-making moments
  • Educate students, staff and volunteers about chaplaincy and spiritual care
  • Participate in ethics, palliative, hospice and/or cancer interdisciplinary teams as requested
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with staff on designated rounding units
  • Offer invocations, blessings and benedictions at network functions or onsite memorial services

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Theology or related field
  • 3 years as a hospital or facilities chaplain
  • Familiarity with religious and/or spiritual beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations
  • Skill at monitoring/assessing performance to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Good stewardship of time, energy, physical, and financial resources
  • At least 1 unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) in a clinical setting required
  • 2–4 units of CPE preferred
  • Ability to meet physical demands: lift and carry 7 lbs., continuous sitting over 67%, frequent keyboard use/repetitive motion, and frequent fine motor activity/wrist position deviation
