About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures and invasive procedures using appropriate patient protocols, positioning, techniques, equipment, and supplies
- Identify patients and provide instruction and guidance regarding ultrasound procedures
- Review and confirm provider orders
- Provide technical support and consult with radiologists
- Deliver high-quality scans and communicate findings-related information to the radiologist
- Produce optimal-quality images and adapt techniques to visualize areas of interest
- Scan documentation and handle patients professionally, ethically, safely, and courteously
- Reduce defects, errors, and rework through preventative planning
- Assist with instructing new employees and ancillary departments
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the immediate work area
- Ensure proper and efficient operation of equipment and report malfunctions or repair needs
- Attend department and hospital meetings
- Participate in the hospital safety program
- Participate in call rotations as necessary
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an approved CAHEA school of diagnostic medical sonography or certification program
- Specialized Diploma
- In good standing with the ARDMS
- 1 year clinical experience in ultrasound
- 1 year abdominal, GYN, and peripheral vascular Doppler experience
- Ability to deal effectively and ethically with medical and confidential patient information
- Ability to function independently and competently
- Ability to maintain professional relationships with co-workers and medical staff
- Knowledge of patients, families, physicians, nurses, and students
- Knowledge to ensure assessment, treatment, and care are appropriate for patients ranging from neonates to geriatrics
- RDMS — Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, upon hire
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required in Pennsylvania within 30 days
- Ability to lift and carry 40–50 lbs.
- Frequent to continuous standing and walking; patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift
- May need to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR
- Preferred: Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Preferred: RVT — Registered Vascular Technologist
