About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Communicate with all Pre-Kindergarten staff members regarding the program
  • Communicate with parents regarding all aspects of the program
  • Cover the daily duties of the Community Education Site Coordinator during absences
  • Follow staff schedules and maintain required child-to-staff ratios
  • Ensure staff know lockdown, fire, discipline, health, and safety procedures
  • Manage discipline and escalate concerns to the Community Education Site Coordinator and Assistant Principal
  • Assist with development and implementation of age-appropriate curriculum
  • Devise and deliver daily lesson plans
  • Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments and learning concepts
  • Perform student assessments throughout the school year
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support classroom goals
  • Assist students with lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities
  • Model appropriate behavior and enforce cleanup after lunchtime
  • Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, files, and records
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom communications
  • Provide nurturing, comfort, and security for young students
  • Report student observations, incidents, safety conditions, and behavioral changes
  • Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers
  • Encourage parent participation and support family relationships
  • Liaise with families during home-to-school, classroom, and preschool-to-kindergarten transitions
  • Monitor students in classrooms, playgrounds, and other settings
  • Keep Teacher Assistants updated on classroom and program matters
  • Provide functional training and guidance to staff, interns, substitutes, and volunteers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 12 months of childcare experience
  • Food Handler’s Card/Certification
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times
  • Must pass a criminal history background check
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Ability to interact positively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Ability to follow lesson plans meeting student needs and school and state requirements
  • Ability to use varied teaching strategies and curriculum best practices
  • Ability to identify individual student needs
  • Good communication skills with students, coworkers, administration, and parents
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers and school staff
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, and lift approximately 25 pounds, with occasional lifting up to approximately 40 pounds
