About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide an educational atmosphere for students in the absence of the regular teacher
  • Report to the school secretary upon arrival
  • Review plans and schedules for the teaching day
  • Maintain established routines and procedures
  • Teach the lesson(s) outlined in the Substitute Teacher’s Folder
  • Consult with the building principal as appropriate
  • Oversee pupil behavior in class, lunch, and recess
  • Report in writing on the day’s activities at the end of each teaching day
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and professionals regularly
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment
  • Model professional and ethical standards
  • Ensure continuous and appropriate student growth and achievement
  • Encourage students to uphold values and model mature behavior
  • Perform light lifting and moving throughout the campus as required
  • Participate in events outside of normal hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Substitute teaching certification issued from the state position is located
  • Teaching and/or substitute teaching experience
