About the role
- Implement, support, and maintain all aspects of the project’s Linux infrastructure (virtual and physical servers and software resources)
- Monitor system health, capacity, and troubleshoot Linux system resources using Nagios, iLO/iDRAC, and VMware host console
- Assist development teams with operations and maintenance tasks (host creation, performance troubleshooting, hardware issues, account management)
- Coordinate vendor access and hardware replacement in the Data Center
- Develop and implement new Linux hardware/software capabilities (security, logging, monitoring, automation)
- Participate in accreditation activities (scans, automation, auditing) and support accreditation processes
- Provide Linux system administration guidance across multiple development teams (disk management, account creation, design reviews)
- Create, manage, and update Linux servers in cloud environments
- Manage and monitor Linux servers in VMWare/VSphere and build/maintain VMs and automation workflows
- Perform hardware maintenance and firmware updates on HP and Dell server platforms using iLOM/iDRAC
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience
- Minimum ten (10) years of related Systems and Linux Engineering experience
- TS/SCI with Full-Scope Polygraph required (from job title)
- Monitor health and capacity and troubleshoot Linux system resources using Nagios and iLO or iDRAC and VMware host console
- Assist multiple development teams with recurring operations and maintenance activities (host creation, system performance issues, hardware issues, general Linux administration support, Centrify/AD support)
- Coordinate and escort vendors into the Data Center to replace failed hardware components on Linux systems
- Project-based development and implementation of new Linux hardware and software capabilities (security enhancements, central logging, resource monitoring and notification, Dev/Ops automation)
- Participate in and conduct accreditation support (scans, automation, auditing) of Linux systems
- Provide general Linux system administration guidance and support (disk management, account creation, design reviews)
- Create, manage, and update Linux servers in cloud environments
- Prior experience as a Unix/Linux Systems Administrator, preferably RHEL/CentOS (installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting)
- Prior experience developing Puppet modules for server builds (Kickstart) and maintenance automation
- Prior experience integrating automation with TFTP, DHCP and DNS
- Prior experience with Centrify and Active Directory integration and management of Linux groups, accounts and servers
- Prior experience with one or more scripting tools: Puppet, Shell, Perl/CGI, Python
- Managing and monitoring Linux server resources in a VMWare/VSphere environment
- Building and maintaining Linux virtual machines and server/resource automation
- Experience with automation tools such as Puppet and Ansible, CGI/Perl and Python
- Direct hardware experience including maintenance and firmware updates to HP DL Series servers, Dell PowerEdge R630/730 servers and iLOM/iDRAC usage
- Desired: SQL querying (MySQL), Nutanix and HPCC, Python and Ansible automation, Docker Swarm and/or Kubernetes, HP Apollo architectures, git for infrastructure code management
