About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the end-to-end architecture of hardware safety and power management systems, including safe-state strategies, power sequencing, thermal throttling, and watchdog orchestration meeting ASIL-B/C safety goals
- Implement low-level drivers and firmware for safety-critical ICs such as PMICs, voltage supervisors, and thermal monitors on bare metal and FreeRTOS
- Lead hardware-software safety diagnostic frameworks and integrate TI Safety Diagnostic Library features including LBIST, PBIST, ECC, DCC, and ESM
- Ensure diagnostic coverage maps to ISO 26262 hardware fault metrics
- Perform deep-dive code reviews across hardware safety modules and enforce clean, testable, consistent designs
- Serve as the subject matter expert for hardware-firmware-safety interfaces
- Resolve ambiguity in PMIC sequencing, watchdog timing, thermal limits, and voltage thresholds through evidence-based technical influence
- Mentor engineers on embedded safety patterns, driver architecture, RTOS integration, ISO 26262 traceability, and functional safety reasoning
- Collaborate with hardware teams, PMIC vendors, SoC architects, safety engineers, and system integration teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience (or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or PhD)
- Experience in embedded C/C++ with deep understanding of advanced language features, design paradigms, and embedded constraints (no exceptions, no RTTI, careful memory management)
- Proven ability to design clean abstractions and interface-based code for testability
- Proven expertise in ARM-based SoC architectures, specifically ARM Cortex-R5F: memory-mapped I/O, interrupt controllers (VIM), MPU configuration, cache behavior, and memory barriers
- Experience debugging at the register level using datasheets
- Direct experience configuring MPUs and hardware-level firewalls to enforce spatial and temporal isolation in multi-core, safety-critical environments
- Experience building or significantly refactoring Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL)
- Ability to root-cause complex system failures involving shared memory, RTOS task scheduling, and hardware peripherals without supervision
- Ability to identify low-level design pitfalls and express designs through state diagrams, timing requirements, and register-level sequences
- Expert-level use of embedded debugging tools (JTAG, on-target debugging, logic analyzers)
- Deep understanding of Real-Time Operating Systems, especially FreeRTOS and/or SafeRTOS
- Direct experience developing drivers for safety-critical integrated circuits from datasheets, including SPI/I2C implementation, register-level configuration, fault handling, and diagnostic integration
- Foundational knowledge of ISO 26262 ASIL-B/C functional safety concepts
