About the role
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles to automate system configuration, patching, deployment, and compliance enforcement.
- Develop reusable automation frameworks aligned with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices.
- Automate provisioning and configuration of Linux and Windows systems in enterprise DoD environments.
- Integrate automation workflows with CI/CD pipelines.
- Support automation across hybrid environments (on-premises, private cloud, and DoD cloud environments such as AWS GovCloud or Azure Government).
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, and DevOps teams to implement automated solutions.
- Implement automation in compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements including:
- Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) STIGs
- Risk Management Framework (RMF) controls
- Develop playbooks that enforce system hardening baselines and configuration drift remediation.
- Support Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation and technical validation efforts.
- Ensure secure credential management and integration with enterprise identity solutions.
- Integrate Ansible automation with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
- Support containerized environments and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes/OpenShift).
- Maintain version control and automated testing of playbooks.
- Document automation architecture, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in design reviews and technical planning sessions.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.
- Support incident response and troubleshooting related to automation systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure automation.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience developing Ansible playbooks and roles.
- Experience supporting DoD or federal government environments.
- Strong understanding of Linux system administration.
- Experience implementing automation in secure, STIG-hardened environments.
- Active DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain).
