About the role
- Manage and mentor a distributed team of backend engineers and contractors.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Drive career development and performance management for team members.
- Oversee design, development, and maintenance of backend commerce systems.
- Ensure platforms are scalable, secure, and integrated with adjacent systems.
- Drive best practices in software development, code quality, and architecture.
- Establish and maintain processes for reliability, uptime, and performance monitoring.
- Implement robust incident management and root cause analysis practices.
- Drive automation and efficiency improvements across development and operations.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally
- Partner with Product, Finance, and other engineering teams to deliver commerce capabilities aligned with business goals.
- Collaborate with product managers, finance, marketing and business leaders, and key stakeholders to determine the team's roadmap and manage execution against that roadmap.
- Optimize legacy systems and architect new backend services for commerce workflows, entitlement management, and payment integrations.
- Perform code reviews and maintain high-quality engineering standards.
- Contribute to API development and backend features using .Net or other modern frameworks.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks to keep systems modern and competitive.
Requirements
- Engineering management experience with significant experience as a software engineer
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability tools (Datadog), and incident management protocols.
- Deep understanding of software engineering principles, object oriented programming and microservices design patterns
- Understanding of distributed systems, API design, and integration strategies
- Track record of building and leading diverse teams and growing Sr. engineers.
- Expertise in agile methodologies, backlog grooming, sprint planning, and release management
- Able to explain technically challenging details to stakeholders, partners and peers
- Able to interact with customers, PMs, stakeholders, senior leadership on all levels
- Able to quickly adapt to new situations and to learn fast
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Fluent in English
