About the role

  • Perform mechanical system and component design utilizing solid modeling CAD tools.
  • Create detailed drawings of parts and assemblies utilizing CAD tools.
  • Calculate and lay out dimensions, angles, curvature of parts, materials to be used, and relationship of various parts to entire structure.
  • Responsible for ensuring mechanical development is created per schedule and per cost objectives.
  • Generate BOMs and ECOs.
  • Involved with a project/product at its infancy and support development products into production ready capacity.
  • Interact with internal and outside suppliers to procure, deliver, and implement parts and designs.
  • Trouble shoot and find corrective actions for "in the field" products that may experience failures.
  • Contribute to component and/or solution design, development, documentation, and validation.
  • Work on agile development teams, collaborating with multiple cross-discipline architecture teams to develop hardware and software components as part of L+G Smart Grid solutions.
  • Participate in recruitment, development and mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Contribute to area-specific continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to innovative technology and solutions development and/or validation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or relevant field.
  • 1-5 years of experience in mechanical design for electronic devices.
  • Experience with designing/developing sheet metal, plastics, die casts and machined enclosures.
  • Experience in design applications requiring environmental sealing, EMI sealing, thermal dissipation, and vibration loads.
  • Proficient with Pro/Engineering and/or Creo
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of development processes, tools, and related frameworks
  • Knowledge of relevant development and/or validation methodologies
  • Knowledge of AMI and Smart Grid Systems and Solutions
  • Advanced design, development, or validation skills in functional area.
  • Ability to understand data effectively to solve problems and support ideas.
  • Ability to understand the code\feature base and deliver assigned improvements.
  • Ability to design well-organized code\testing methodologies.
  • Ability to complete\validate medium features with minimal oversight.
  • Personal Computer knowledge
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Keyboard/typing skills.
