About the role

  • Field-based Purina Animal Nutrition Feed Sales Representative focused on commercial cattle, equine and lifestyle feed sales
  • Sell feed and related products to optimize dealer market share and efficiency and support dealer goals
  • Remote (virtual) field-based role; must be located within 40 miles of Lakeview, OR
  • Call on animal owners (primary focus grass cattle) to evaluate feeding programs and recommend nutritional programs
  • Sell/consult at the farm gate (up to 25 farm calls per week), develop new prospects, and make cold calls
  • Organize and conduct educational meetings/events for 4H clubs, saddle clubs, vets, trainers, and lifestyle show clubs
  • Compensation: base salary plus commission (base typically $60,000 - $75,000); target bonus $15,000
  • Travel: ~15% overnight plus daily travel in assigned geography

Requirements

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Animal Science or related field strongly desired
  • Candidates with a pending bachelor\'s degree or candidates with proven sales and industry experience may be considered
  • Previous sales experience highly desired
  • Basic command of making nutritional and feeding recommendations to animal owners
  • Understanding of husbandry, current management practices, and nutritional guidelines
  • Work/life experience in management and care of animals
  • Competent in providing accurate feeding and management recommendations
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office) and ability to be trained on HerdSmart and Salesforce
  • Strong background and professional experience with Cattle, Dairy, Equine, or Lifestyle animals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and time management skills
  • High internal drive, relationship-building, and leadership in a team environment
  • Ability and drive to make multiple daily sales calls and develop new prospects
  • Ability to perform on-farm interactions and animal evaluations in all weather
  • Ability to network within the industry to generate business
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Solid public speaking skills
  • Willingness to travel (~15% overnight) and daily travel within assigned geography
  • Must be located within 40 miles of the Lakeview, OR geographic territory
