About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assume teaching duties as assigned by the program director within the Legal Studies program as a core program staff member.
  • Provide tutoring assistance to students that require it as assigned.
  • Prepare students for success in program progression (including but not limited to advising), obtaining employment upon program completion, and/or continuing their education.
  • Assist the Director in the developing of, conducting, coordinating, and evaluating the experiential learning opportunities related to the Legal Studies Program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the legal studies profession and educational methodology through continuing professional development.
  • Participate in curriculum design and ongoing curricular assessment of the legal studies program aligning with ABA standards.
  • Assist the Director with ABA re-approval and compliance tasks.
  • Involvement in all areas of student and program assessment from admission to post graduation as outlined in the program assessment plan.
  • Oversee the publication of the Law Journal.
  • Serve on College committees as needed.
  • Participate in activities that facilitate professional expertise in the areas of administration, teaching and maintenance of Legal Studies competence.
  • Assist in publicizing and disseminating information about the Legal Studies program.
  • Assist Director with measuring student attainment of program competencies and outcomes.
  • Participate in Lackawanna College professional development opportunities, including CTL and adjunct professional development training.
  • Provide academic advising and course planning support for students.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects, as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris doctorate (JD) required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of actual industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing/revising curriculum preferred.
  • Teaching online preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective working relationships with students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
