About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform FISH analysis, which includes analysis and imaging of digitized images
- Cytogenetic analysis of metaphase spreads via computerized images
- Review of cytogenetic cases via computerized images and documents
- Review test requisitions to gather pertinent details for analysis
- Summarize test results utilizing ISCN nomenclature
- Distinguish between normal and abnormal test results
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot equipment, software and applications to ensure proper functionality
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
- Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
- Reports any and all problems to the general supervisor in a timely manner
- Collaborates with general supervisor on protocol/policy development and review
- Provides feedback to senior technologists on technical matters
- Understands and complies with company policies and procedures
- Maintain a safe work environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
- ASCP certification in Cytogenetics (ASCP CG)
- 1 year or more experience in FISH and Chromosomes for Oncology Cytogenetics
- 2 years or more experience with cytogenetic analysis of metaphase spreads via computerized images (preferred)
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
