About the role

  • Design and development of space borne mechanisms and optical mounts for IR payloads.
  • Includes completing mechanical analysis, architecture definition design development with supporting trade studies.
  • Job will include being part of a team of engineers in accomplishing the above assignments.
  • Mechanical systems methods for IR payloads and subsystems from requirement allocations and flow downs to specification and interface definition and compliance verification.
  • Detailed mechanical design skills of mechanisms for payloads.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Procurement during the build and test of mechanisms.
  • Author PDRs, CDRs, and other required design review documents.
  • Perform trade studies to determine optimal designs.
  • Complete mass, torque margin and tolerance budgets and current predictions.
  • Interface with team and other functions including Systems engineering, Operations and Quality.
  • Participate in risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience in design for testing in space environments (i.e., temperature, vacuum, radiation, etc.)
  • Professional experience in 3D CAD modeling
  • Strong hands-on capabilities, to include integration and diagnosis of mechanisms and products.
  • Active Security Clearance is preferred
  • PTC Creo or Solidworks strongly preferred
  • NASA 5017 and ABMA Standards knowledge
  • GD&T, tolerance stacks
  • Expertise in 3D CAD modeling
  • Excellent people skills, with collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Prior mechanism design experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.
