About the role
- Design and development of space borne mechanisms and optical mounts for IR payloads.
- Includes completing mechanical analysis, architecture definition design development with supporting trade studies.
- Job will include being part of a team of engineers in accomplishing the above assignments.
- Mechanical systems methods for IR payloads and subsystems from requirement allocations and flow downs to specification and interface definition and compliance verification.
- Detailed mechanical design skills of mechanisms for payloads.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Procurement during the build and test of mechanisms.
- Author PDRs, CDRs, and other required design review documents.
- Perform trade studies to determine optimal designs.
- Complete mass, torque margin and tolerance budgets and current predictions.
- Interface with team and other functions including Systems engineering, Operations and Quality.
- Participate in risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Up to 10% travel may be required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
- Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
- Experience in design for testing in space environments (i.e., temperature, vacuum, radiation, etc.)
- Professional experience in 3D CAD modeling
- Strong hands-on capabilities, to include integration and diagnosis of mechanisms and products.
- Active Security Clearance is preferred
- PTC Creo or Solidworks strongly preferred
- NASA 5017 and ABMA Standards knowledge
- GD&T, tolerance stacks
- Expertise in 3D CAD modeling
- Excellent people skills, with collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
- Prior mechanism design experience
- Experience using Microsoft Office products.
