About the role

  • Perform structural analyses on aircraft primary and secondary structures
  • Use a mix of classical methods and finite-element modeling
  • Consider all relevant failure modes to meet aircraft airworthiness requirements
  • Predict internal stresses and structural instabilities in aircraft structure
  • Generate free-body diagrams of structural load paths
  • Determine reaction forces, calculate internal loads, and develop shear and moment diagrams
  • Document and report analysis results
  • Coordinate with Mechanical Design team to develop structural load path concepts
  • Review and approve structural engineering drawings as part of the release process
  • Automate repetitive analytical tasks
  • Work in a collaborative team environment as a member of the Flight Sciences Group

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSME, BSAE, BSCE) and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience
  • Graduate Degree (MSME, MSAE) and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience
  • Minimum 4 years experience in Finite-Element Modeling (FEM)
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Experience with MSC PATRAN/NASTRAN, or FEMAP is preferred
  • Experience analyzing composite structures
  • Experience in Matlab or Mathcad
  • Experience with FAA and/or Military Airworthiness requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and have general computer knowledge.
