About the role

  • perform analysis of aircraft structure using classical and finite element analysis methods to develop free body diagrams, calculate internal loads and stresses, and write margins of safety for static strength.
  • lead a small team of other stress engineers by mentoring them on technical problems and managing their budget and schedule performance.
  • support the development of engineering estimates for bids and provide input for a monthly labor forecast for your team.
  • Use classical hand analysis and create finite element models to predict internal loads, displacements, and stresses for complex structure
  • Collaborate with design engineers to develop aircraft modifications and installations and ensure the design meets airworthiness requirements
  • Generate free body diagrams and calculate internal loads and stresses
  • Develop structural tests and post-process the results to establish allowable strength data
  • Document structural analysis in formal reports to show compliance with airworthiness requirements
  • Manage personal work to stay within scope, budget, and schedule for assigned tasks
  • Mentor and lead other engineers in performing structural analysis
  • Estimate engineering labor hours for formal bids and manage labor forecasts for a small team of engineers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, aerospace, aeronautical engineering, or related field and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Good computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant commercial fixed-wing transport category airplane fuselage structural analysis
  • The ability to analyze the static strength of aircraft structure with classical methods from publicly available data
  • Advanced knowledge of the application of finite element analysis with Femap and MSC Nastran for FAA projects
  • Review engineering design data with CAD and PLM software
  • Familiarity with FAA and military airworthiness requirements for static strength
  • Able to travel to and from flight line and work in aircraft hangar environments (some positions will require the ability to board/exit aircraft)
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
  • Able to obtain a DoD clearance at the Secret level
