About the role
- Support design effort by performing mechanical engineering design and analysis to establish validity of proposed designs
- Participate in design reviews and provide feedback to enhance the structural and thermal performance of components and mechanisms
- Develop working designs, computer solid models and design layouts of complex parts, mechanisms, and optical mounting using MCAD/MCAE tools
- Create/review detail and assembly drawings to ASME Y14.100 and internal standards
- Perform and document structural and thermal analysis utilizing classical techniques and finite element analysis to establish validity of proposed designs
- Perform kinematic and dynamic analysis of mechanisms
- Perform modal shock and vibration analysis
- Conduct and document thermal analysis and flow induced vibration analysis
- Work with mechanical designers and other engineers to optimize designs for structural and thermal performance
- Prepare and review design documentation in accordance with contract requirements and/or internal standards
- Support the creation of technical performance specifications and assist Purchasing Dept. with procurement of items as necessary
- Contribute to technical proposal efforts as part of a program capture team
- Perform estimates for manpower and other resources factors for related tasks
- Provide tasking inputs to support Integrated Master Schedule creation and maintenance
- Prepare and present internal and external design reviews, Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review activities to demonstrate that the design meets all specifications and customer requirements
- Critically examine a new or existing design to verify that design principles have been correctly applied
- Support the assembly and integration of products/systems
- Support mechanical system and component alignment, testing, troubleshooting and evaluation
- Ensure quality through adherence to the Quality Systems Manual, applicable Standard Work Instructions and other standards invoked internally or contractually
- Work independently and check/verify work performed by peers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 4 or more years of experience in Mechanical Engineering field
- Graduate Degree and a min of 2 years of experience
- Software used: CREO MCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Outlook
- Experience with Analysis tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS and CFDesign, PTC CREO/Simulate, and MathCAD
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret clearance which requires US Citizenship
