About the role
- Leverage extensive expertise in managing and optimizing IBM Information Management System (IMS) mainframe databases.
- Ensure database availability, integrity, and performance through advanced backup and recovery procedures, performance tuning, and issue resolution.
- Design IMS database structures (DBDs, PSBs, ACBs), maintain robust database security, collaborate with developers to deliver effective database solutions, and act as the technical authority for complex database challenges.
- Engage in strategic planning and proactive client-focused solutions in a variety of industries.
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in IMS DBA environment with work management, user management, journal management and performance management
- Act as support and domain expert for IMS DBA and system components; provide direct technical support as needed in the planning, coordination, installation, implementation and testing of releases, upgrades, or changes to IMS DBA subsystem, network, and component software.
- Experience with mainframe IMS Full-Function and Fast Path databases in production environments.
- Strong understanding of IMS utilities, DBRC, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and mainframe batch job troubleshooting.
- Proficient understanding of database internals, logs, buffer pools, and catalog/directory management.
- Experience with mainframe performance monitoring and tuning tools.
- Solid experience with mainframe automation and scripting tools, and potentially Linux/Unix scripting.
- Knowledge of related mainframe technologies such as CICS, COBOL, and data sharing.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to interface with technical and non-technical teams.
