Requirements
- Minimum three years of experience in Core Mainframe Hardware Configuration
- Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD/HCM)
- Creating and managing I/O Definition Files (IODFs)
- Configuring LPARs, channels, control units, and devices
- Handling dynamic changes to I/O configuration
- LPAR Configuration
- Allocating CPU, memory, and device resources to LPARs
- Setting up Processor Resource/System Manager (PR/SM)
- Planning and allocating system capacity and resources
- HMC (Hardware Management Console) Operations
- Proficient navigation and use of the HMC interface
- Powering systems on and off
- Configuring and accessing consoles
- Monitoring system logs and statuses
- Implementing role-based access controls
- Knowledge of FICON channels, control units, and device addressing
- Mapping direct access storage devices (DASD) and tape devices
- Collaborating with storage vendors (EMC, Hitachi, IBM DS8000)
- Configuring Open Systems Adapter (OSA) for network integration
- Processor and Memory Configuration
- Managing central processors (CP), zIIPs, and Integrated Facility for Linux (IFLs)
- Assigning processor types within LPARs
- Provisioning and tuning memory
- z/OS Sysplex and Coupling Facility Configuration
- Defining and connecting Coupling Facilities (CFs)
- Establishing Sysplex timers and cross-system communication
- Configuring CF structures
- Dynamically Reconfigurable Systems
- Adding or removing resources without requiring an Initial Program Load (IPL)
- Making dynamic I/O adjustments (with VARY commands)
- Executing real-time changes to memory or CPU via HMC
- Disaster Recovery / High Availability Configuration
- Setting up hardware for Parallel Sysplex environments
- Designing multi-site and HyperSwap-enabled configurations
- Automating hardware failover processes
- Hardware/Software Compatibility & Planning
- Understanding Machine Element Specifications (MES) and compatibility between hardware and software
- Utilizing IBM Resource Link and Techdocs
- Employing capacity planning tools such as RMF, SMF, BMC, and IBM OMEGAMON.
