About the role

  • Engineer and maintain JES2/JES3 print routing policies (classes, forms, FSS writers, NJE/NJI routing, Transforms, destinations)
  • Configure and tune output queues, writer startup/shutdown behavior, error recovery, and reprint/hold/release workflows
  • Establish standards for dataset attributes, forms control, separators, and message routing for operations teams
  • Install, configure, and support InfoPrint Server (including IP PrintWay extended/basic, LPD/LPR, direct socket printing)
  • Manage PSF (Print Services Facility) configuration—AFP resources, transforms, printers, and device/workstation definitions
  • Build and maintain automation rules and event handling using NetView/SA and OPS/MVS (OPS/REXX, AOF policies)
  • Lead incident triage for JES/print failures (writer abends, device errors, transform failures, network issues)
  • Maintain standards, runbooks, and design docs for JES routing, InfoPrint/PSF configuration

Requirements

  • 12+ years in mainframe systems engineering with a focus on JES2/JES3 output management
  • Strong hands‐on experience with InfoPrint Server, PSF, and IBM print workflows (AFP/line data, transforms, routing)
  • Proficiency in REXX (and OPS/REXX) for automation and tooling
  • Practical experience building automation with NetView/SA and OPS/MVS for message and event handling
  • Solid understanding of z/OS operations (SDSF, console, JES commands), NJE, TCP/IP print protocols (LPR/LPD, IPP where applicable)
  • Proven incident response and RCA skills for JES writers, output queues, and print subsystem issues
