About the role

  • Configure, maintain, and optimize VTAM definitions (APPL, LUs, logmodes, major/minor nodes)
  • Engineer and tune z/OS TCP/IP stacks: stacks parms, interfaces/OSA, routing, VIPA/DVIPA
  • Implement and troubleshoot TN3270 server configurations
  • Support Connect:Direct (NDM) configurations, performance tuning, partner onboarding
  • Configure and support FTP/FTPS/SFTP/SFTPS services on z/OS
  • Own Policy Agent (PAGENT) configurations for IPSec and AT‑TLS policies
  • Use NetView/SA to automate message handling, operator commands
  • Perform advanced diagnostics for TCP/IP, VTAM traces
  • Create and maintain network runbooks, standards, and configuration baselines
  • Engineer high‑availability configurations and participate in DR/Recovery tests

Requirements

  • 12+ years working with z/OS Communications Server (VTAM & TCP/IP) and TN3270 in enterprise environments
  • Proven experience supporting Connect:Direct/NDM, FTP/FTPS, SFTP/SFTPS, and Policy Agent (AT‑TLS/IPSec) configurations end‑to‑end
  • Hands‑on with NetView/SA for operational automation and with MainView or Omegamon for monitoring and diagnostics
  • Strong troubleshooting skills: TCP/IP traces, VTAM traces, packet analysis, certificate/crypto issues, authentication/SAF integrations
  • Proficiency with z/OS operations (JES2, SDSF, console, RACF integrations) and change governance in regulated environments
  • Solid understanding of TLS/SSL, SSH, PKI, and SAF keyring management on z/OS
  • Experience with Sysplex networking constructs, HiperSockets, EE, and VIPA policies is a plus
