About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Sample and test sugar beet seeds at each phase of the production process to maintain product quality
- Conduct germination, purity, TKW, sizing, x-ray, moisture, genetic, plantability, stress, sample preparation, sample retention, and seed quality standards testing
- Create, update, and follow Quality Control standard operating procedures
- Maintain laboratory testing equipment
- Perform data entry using multiple input tools
- Train new and temporary employees on SOPs
- Develop, support, and maintain working relationships with all departments
- Work rotating shifts as needed, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays
- Pull and store samples and mix soil using a forklift
- Follow company handbooks, rules, guidelines, procedures, safety policies, and PPE requirements
- Occasionally travel, drive, or operate a forklift on behalf of the business
- Meet attendance requirements and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills
- Attention to detail and aptitude for multitasking
- Ability to use forceps with keen attention to detail
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts as needed
- Ability to become forklift certified
- Strong communication, organization, and team leadership skills
- Ability to work in high and precarious places and safely cover multiple areas, including staircases
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, including loud, hot, cold, dusty, and damp environments
- Ability to work individually and within a team setting
- Ability to frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Required vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus ability to adjust focus
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Proficiency in MS-based applications preferred
- Knowledge of seed testing procedures preferred
- Strong basic math skills preferred
- Demonstrated experience analyzing data preferred
- Valid driver's license preferred
