- Kraken’s Regulatory Legal team sits at the forefront of global crypto innovation. We are a tight, experienced group of regulatory lawyers from a diverse range of tradfi, fintech, and crypto backgrounds who move fast, stay curious, and take pride in the commercial accountability of our advice to drive regulatory strategy, regulatory licensing, and expansion across new markets. Our mission: enable Kraken’s rapid growth while protecting the business from regulatory risks.
- We’re looking for a sharp, business-savvy Senior Counsel – Regulatory to join our team. - partnering directly with other Legal, Product, Policy, Compliance, Risk, Finance, and Operations teams to guide Kraken through the complex, rapidly-changing crypto regulatory landscape. This role reports directly to the Head of Regulatory Legal and offers the chance to shape the future of crypto regulation while working on some of the most cutting-edge legal issues in financial services.
- This is a fully remote role for a lawyer licensed to practice in the United States.
- Drive Kraken’s regulatory strategy across federal and state regimes in the U.S.
- Provide actionable legal guidance to the business on all regulatory matters, including regulatory strategy, licensing, registration, regulatory inquiries and ongoing regulatory obligations.
- Support global expansion and new product launches with forward-looking regulatory advice.
- Partner with regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders on first-of-their-kind issues in digital assets.
- Monitor global regulatory developments and help craft Kraken’s policy positions and regulatory engagement strategy.
- Represent Kraken in high-stakes regulatory discussions in the U.S. and abroad.
- Advise on regulatory implications of M&A, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
- JD from a top law school and active U.S. state bar membership.
- 7+ years of experience with financial services laws and regulations at a top tier law firm, in-house or at a regulator or self-regulatory organization.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. securities and derivatives regulation.
- Ability to turn complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance.
- Exceptional analytical, writing, and organizational skills.
- Confidence operating independently in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
- Curiosity, flexibility, and a bias for action at the intersection of crypto and traditional global markets.
- In-house experience in fintech, crypto, or other highly regulated sectors.
- Hands-on experience with licensing and registration applications.
- International regulatory or cross-border advisory experience.
- Ability to efficiently and confidently distill complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyers and product stakeholders.
- Pragmatic, commercially accountable approach to legal and regulatory risk that prioritises providing stakeholders with a useful range of options and delivers clear recommendations to decision-makers.
- Passion for crypto, Web3 and emerging technologies.
- Experience working in international settings.
