Senior Product and Regulatory Counsel
KOHOSenior Legal Counsel supporting product development and regulatory strategy for fintech company KOHO. Working cross-functionally to ensure compliance and innovation in financial services.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner across KOHO Tech and KOHO Bank to provide practical regulatory advice that enables growth while protecting customers.
- Support the design and launch of new financial products and features, identifying regulatory risks early and helping teams build compliant solutions.
- Play a key role in helping KOHO set up and operationalize a regulated bank, including supporting engagement with regulators such as OSFI, FCAC, and the Bank of Canada.
- Support marketing and growth teams by ensuring campaigns are effective and compliant with financial services and consumer protection requirements.
- Provide guidance to customer-facing teams on complaints handling, communications, and fairness considerations.
- Help build scalable legal and regulatory processes to support KOHO’s long-term growth as a regulated financial institution.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6+ years post-call experience as a lawyer practicing in Canada (in-house and/or at a law firm).
- Experience advising on financial services regulation, banking law, or consumer protection frameworks.
- Strong judgment and the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, CX, Risk, and Compliance teams.
- High ownership mindset — takes initiative and focuses on solutions over problems.
- Builder mentality with a bias toward action in fast-moving environments.

- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Honest, responsive, and collaborative
- Experience working at a bank, fintech, or regulated financial institution (nice to have).
- Familiarity with RPAA and the Financial Consumer Protection Framework (FCPF)(nice to have).
- Knowledge of AML/ATF and privacy laws (nice to have).
- Fluent in French (nice to have).
