About the role

  • Planning, setup and execution of extrusion, thermoforming and coating trials on pilot equipment.
  • Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of extrusion machines, thermoforming equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Collaboration with innovation engineers, product line management and commercial teams to translate customer requirements into technical solutions.
  • Support innovation engineers with work packages as part of innovation projects.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of extrusion processes and formulations.
  • Support during customer visits and technical discussions during trials as the primary technical contact.
  • Analyze trial data, document results, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Ensure safe operation and compliance with internal standards and procedures.
  • Maintain lab and equipment readiness, including calibration, cleaning and preventive maintenance.
  • Assist in training and onboarding of colleagues and visitors, particularly on extrusion equipment and safety protocols.
  • Manage transactions such as orders and/or invoices for customers paying for iCenter services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/Polymer Engineering or alternatively a completed technical apprenticeship and several years of relevant professional experience.
  • Solid understanding of various polymer processing technologies with a particular focus on multilayer film and sheet extrusion.
  • Knowledge of extrusion die design, extrusion screw geometry, feedblock structure and their relationship to the development of multilayer extrusion structures.
  • Understanding of polymer rheology and structure–property relationships, and hands-on experience with polyethylene, polypropylene and polyesters.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, converting technologies such as thermoforming and coating.
  • Understanding of the product development process from concept through lab and pilot to commercial implementation.
  • Good project management skills.
  • German as a native language or bilingual.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – ability to enter and interpret data in Excel and to write project reports in Word.
  • Experience with design software such as SolidWorks and CAD/CAM is an advantage.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and ISO/EU systems is an advantage.
  • Background in pharmaceutical/medical device packaging is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer support or training.
